Our mailing list software, Mailman, has both a web interface and the ability to make changes by emailing specific commands. Instructions for the web interface are below.

Steps:

Manually Adding Users to a listserv
  1. Go to http://mailman.oxy.edu/mailman/admin and select your list name.
  2. Login using the MODERATOR password for this list.
  3. In the upper left choose Membership Management
  4. Choose Mass Subscription and enter the email address(es) of the people that you want to add, one per line.
  5. Click on the button that says Submit Changes.
  6. Once you do that, it will show you all of the email addresses that you’ve added at the top of the page.
Manually Removing Users from a listserv
  1. Go to http://mailman.oxy.edu/mailman/admin and select your list name.
  2. Login using the MODERATOR password for this list.
  3. In the upper left choose Membership Management
  4. Choose Mass Removal
  5. Enter the email address(es) of the people that you want to remove.
  6. Click on the button that says Submit Changes.
  7. Once you do that, it will show you all of the email addresses that you’ve removed at the top of the page.
Approving or Rejecting messages to the listserv
  1. Go to http://mailman.oxy.edu/mailman/admin and select your list name.
  2. Login using the MODERATOR password for this list.
  3. Click on the “Tend to Moderator Requests” link
  4. A summary of messages held for moderation  *
  5. Choose to Accept or Reject a message by selecting that options radio button
  6. Click on “Submit All Data” button

Allowing a non-Member to Post to the Listserv
  • Go to http://mailman.oxy.edu/mailman/admin and select your list name.
  • Login using the MODERATOR password for this list.
  • Click Privacy Options
  • Choose Sender Filters
  • Where it says “List of non-members whose posting should be automatically accepted” type the email address of the individual who you’d like to give permission to send to the list.
  • Click on the “Submit Your Changes” button
Changing the Moderator on a listserv
  • Go to http://panther.cc.oxy.edu/mailman/admin/listname (where listname is the name of the list)
  • Login using the MODERATOR password for this list.
  • On the first page in the box where it says “The list administrator email addresses. Multiple administrator addresses, each on separate line is okayadd new moderator’s email address
  • In the box where it says “The list moderator email addresses. Multiple moderator addresses, each on separate line is okayadd the email address of the new moderator
  • Click on the “Submit Your Changes” button
  • Provide the new moderator with the current moderator password.
  • When the new moderator logs in to the list for the first time (step 1) they can change the moderator and administrator passwords by clicking on the “Password” link and following the instructions.
Changing the Message Body Size Limit
  • Go to http://panther.cc.oxy.edu/mailman/admin/listname (where listname is the name of the list)
  • Log in with MODERATOR password
  • On the General Options Page (the first page that loads) scroll down to where it says “Maximum length in kilobytes (KB) of a message body
  • Change the number in the box to a higher number or change it to 0 so that there is no limit
  • Click on the button that says “Submit Your Changes
